To be successful, preachers need to consider what makes for effective and helpful example stories, because stories can be a window to the core idea of a sermon.  However, many preachers have difficulty finding good example stories when they prepare sermons.  This project examines selected passages in Paul's writings from a homiletic perspective.  Paul's metaphors and analogies have some recommendable elements and provide standards for selecting example stories.  Paul's marriage and potter analogies in Romans and the planting and running metaphors in 1 Corinthians are excellent examples for contemporary preachers to follow.  Two Korean pastors who are very famous for their impressive and influential sermons also have distinctive example stories within their sermons. There are some commonalities and differences among them. This thesis states that multimedia presentations will be useful for reaching the 'electronic generations' in the post-literate world.  This project presented the same homily to four different university groups.  Two groups heard the homily and saw a simultaneous video presentation.  The other two heard only the oral/aural presentation.  The participants answered questionnaires, and two groups participated in focus group discussions.  Quantitative results were neutral, with a slight leaning in support of the thesis. As reminiscing is a common characteristic among the aged, applying it in the preaching ministry and worship activity among nursing home residents can serve the purpose of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in many helpful ways. This MAP explains and presents examples of how reminiscing from the past in the lives of the residents draws forth vivid memories in their minds. Used as a method in preaching, these memories can also strengthen and deepen the faith of the aged individual who is nearing eternity. Six sermons modeling this preaching method were written and delivered to the residents of the Greenfield Manor in Greenfield, Iowa, between May and October in 2005. The research process extended over three periods, making a total of twelve testing weekends, and was conducted in De Pere, Wisconsin.
