The initial church's understanding of Christ is encapsulated in passages scattered through the New Testament called Christological hymns. The project sought to discover whether a sermon series that unpacks and contextualizes the Christology found in these hymns will enhance college students' understanding of who Christ is, and why we serve him wholeheartedly. The terms 'gospel,' 'kerugma,' and 'contextualization' will be defined and delineated. Examining Paul's sermons in Acts with those by the early Apostles (Acts 2:14-42; 3:12-26) a unified threefold rhetorical methods and message is discovered. With that in mind, I undertook this project to explore how to incorporate various kinds of preaching. The three-fold goal was to develop a biblical philosophy of preaching, preaching planning, and to create a process for long-range planning that incorporates the preaching of the whole counsel of God. The project argues that biblical preaching must intentionality and accurately incorporate the entire scriptures in the process of making disciples, and proclaimed in the context of public preaching and teaching. By surveying sermons given by preachers in the New Testament, modern literature on the subject of preaching, and personal interviews with eight seasoned preaching pastors, the conclusion was reached that a preacher's perceived primary role does not affect their starting point in preaching. The students listening are the future leaders of America and other countries of the world. This thesis project develops a 'preaching workshop' for the new college ministers to give them confidence and skills to preach biblically on campus. Chapter two and three are the literature review and the biblical and theological background for the basis for preaching biblically to the university. Chapter four is a summary of the preaching workshop for new college ministers. Chapter five is the review of the workshop and suggestions for future improvements. The author researched the exegetical clues within Hebrews to determine whether or not these influence the communication in preaching. He examined the author of Hebrews' words of encouragement compared to words of warning. He concluded that there is a philosophy of preaching within Hebrews that can be modeled by contemporary preachers.
