The author preached for two years in a congregation where the relational system of evil worked to weaken the preacher's relationship with the congregation and the unity of the congregation. Various styles of preaching were employed by the preacher. The topic of evil was directly addressed in sermons. The author measured the results by polling listeners anonymously, interviewing specific listeners and discerning if the congregation was living out its faith during that time. The research project consists of eight parishioners' responses to six imagistic sermons. The researcher concludes that the use of image plays a significant role in the transformation of the hearers and the preacher.  He suggets that while the use of images is one key in the transformational process, opportunity for sermon reflection is also important. Two discussion groups (those active in the congregation) consisting of two each of the four function pairs were selected.  The sermon was preached and discussed at midweek, rewritten, preached during Sunday worship and then discussed with the second group. It documents an action in ministry consisting of a series of ten experimental sermons which were intended to be therapeutic for listeners.  These sermons began with the ten 'irrational beliefs' from Albert Ellis' rational-emotive therapy, and reframed common psychological problems in terms of the Christian gospel. It is based on the premise that there is a great deal of pain in the world both in individuals and in society. Our failure to acknowledge our pain and offer it to God in worship is detrimental to the building of community in the church and to our relationship with God. Conversely, when we preach, pray and sing laments in keeping with biblical tradition, individuals may find healing and the community may grow in compassion. Reclaiming lament is important to preaching as an antidote to the denial of pain seen in some forms of worship. Old Testament scholars, particularly Walter Brueggemann, worship-theologians and pastoral care scholars affirm the positive aspects of the lament tradition. My method was to demonstrate lament in preaching, prayers and music. I discovered that people are open to the concept of lament, have much to lament in their own lives, and welcome lament in worship when it moves them to hope and
