While the emotional pain and trauma of divorce make many pastors reluctant to preach about it, Jesus makes clear God's intent for marriage as a lifelong covenant of fidelity. Lutherans properly approach divorce from the perspective of an 'evangelical ethic,' demanding a proper balance of Law and Gospel. Any sermon on divorce should be specific, biblically honest, and accessible. The people who will find this project most beneficial will be young men in ministry who have not been able to attend a Christian college or seminary, men who are called to preach later in life, bi-vocational pastors, and laymen who have opportunity to preach occasionally.  A second group of people who will benefit is those to whom these men minister on a regular basis.  The project was accomplished by contracting with a group of about ten interested men to meet once a week over a period of ten weeks for two-hour sessions.
