This project identifies the theology and frequency of diaconate preaching and explains the importance of deacons to be able to effectively communicate God's message. The following work provides a five week seminar that has been taught to a group of deacons from the Diocese of Rockville Centre, New York. The seminar helped the participants to recognize, understand and apply specific skills in which to enhance their preaching. For consistent improvement to occur, there must be a plan for evaluation.  In many areas of life it is possible to take personal inventory and evaluate oneself.  Why not practice the same discipline in preaching?  Improvement implies a standard.  The author has concluded that the standard of preaching is made up of three essential elements.  These elements are the content of the sermon, its ability to connect with the listeners, and spiritual life.  A good sermon must proclaim the truth of Scripture, be relevant to those who hear it, and become a supernatural event.  The author then questioned a group of pastors concerning their efforts for improvement.  Fourteen of these pastors volunteered to participate in a six-week project for improvement through self-analysis.  Only three of the volunteers actually participated. The author explains and analyszes the results of the survey and the experiences of those who did the personal review. By listening to what our listeners hear the preacher grows in understanding of why hearing happens, how the structure of his or her sermon affects hearing, and in knowledge of how that sermon is embodied in its presentation aids or distracts from hearing. This thesis presents examples of how the congregation can effectively coach the preacher in those words and presentations which let God's word be
