Lutherans properly approach divorce from the perspective of an 'evangelical ethic,' demanding a proper balance of Law and Gospel. Any sermon on divorce should be specific, biblically honest, and accessible. In Jungian psychology 'shadow' describes the usually unacknowledged, nondominant aspects of personality that energize behavior in dangerous and unpredictable ways. Preachers can learn to use this energy to enliven preaching that takes all of the 'voices' seriously.
