These new styles foster an 'entertainment culture,' thus producing Christians who have a limited knowledge of both scriptures, the salvation story, and the sacraments. This entertainment culture also nurtures superficial and passive responses to critical issues in the lives of members. The contention is that reclaiming the centrality of sacraments in worship will nurture the capacity of church members to respond more authentically and actively to issues in their lives and the social context. More specifically, it is suggested that both the preparation for and the practice of the sacraments deepens descipleship and creates a contextually relevant worship experience. This project focuses on the implementation of missional principles in a particular congregation to shift its narrative of decline to a narrative of revitalization. The report explores Second Presbyterian Church's historical identity leading to its period of decline, identifies missional principles, and then traces the narrative of the implementation of those principles within the congregation.
