The congregation of 175 was analyzed by interviews with 68 of its members.  These interviews allowed a glimpse of the variety of eschatological symbols and images prevalent in a Presbyterian congregation. The project returned eschatology to the level of congregational theological discourse. Decision making as systematic process can be learned.  Intentionally sharing this comprehensive process, including theology and ethics, improves relationships and produces effective choices.  The author presented the decision making process found in Acts 15, Presbyterian polity, management principles, and systems theory to two church sessions.  Participants shared mind style preferences, analyzed decisions theologically and rationally, and explored systems issues.  The separation of process from content helped clarify leadership dynamics. Shared process produced solid, satisfying decisions. Pastors cited improved communication and coordination. Statistical analysis indicated preference for participatory style. The project studies four groups within congregational life.  Intervention is primarily in the form of a workshop-seminar for officers and other laity of the church.  The project uses the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument.  One hundred one persons responded to the test instrument.  Several variables serve as means for comparing data with standard analyses. Theology of any kind, which fills the ego needs of one individual or group at the expense of others will eventually make the church's life dysfunctional. Theological expression must provide positve ego fulfillment in order for the church to be what God intends. The remaining 400 churches were small churches. Therefore the research and study was designed to measure the effectiveness of the use of a conference in a small church for prayer and financial support and personal commitment for mission involvement.  A conference was proposed to the Chattanooga Valley Presbyterian Church; it was accepted.  A committee was formed to plan, promote and conduct a conference with a speaker and missionary guests. It addresses a problem confronted by missionaries today of how to enter a new culture, developing therein an effective gospel presentation, a system of follow-up, and reproducible training program as a starting point toward the goal of biblical church growth. Research was performed in the area of public opinion, and an educational brochure was administered to a sample of fifty subjects along with a pre-test and post-test in the form of an opinion survey. The pastor and session proposed a hypothesis which was that the establishment of a positive sense of self-worth, which would come about as a result of better self-understanding, agreement of purpose and setting of goals, would reverse the decline.  The hypothesis was measured by surveys. Visible increased activity was noted as was a stronger financial picture, as well.
