Interviews with forty-four Homestead Presbyterian pastors and spouses revealed that their marriage relationships were generally healthy, and that where problems arise the causes are seldom from the clergy job or other external forces, but stem principally from internal attitudes and expectations of self and others.  From the studies a manual was written to provide guidance to committees on ministry in the Presbyterian Church (USA) in nurturing and supporting pastors and spouses. Theology of any kind, which fills the ego needs of one individual or group at the expense of others will eventually make the church's life dysfunctional. Theological expression must provide positve ego fulfillment in order for the church to be what God intends. The project develops a 'theological plumbline' or measuring guideline from the writings of the noted theologian Dr Juergen Moltmann, in order to establish an identity model for the church.  In addition, a sociological-psychological survey is developed that replicates the Presbyterian Committee National Study of 1976 Examination of Membership Loss. The replicated study is applied to a pilot church, the United Church of Riverview, Michigan. The results, included in the study, are analyzed concerning expectations.  The study suggests possible directions in a report made to school trustees. The author's experience during twenty-five years of ministry indicated a serious lack of knowledge by persons serving in that office; therefore, a biblical and historical study of the office of elder was made.  When the study was concluded, the material became part of a course of study designed for elders and deacons-elect in the Presbyterian Church (USA). The paper discribes how this need is being met in two smaller membership churches through the use and evaluation of 'Body Builders: Exercises in Leadership Development for Elders of Smaller Membership Churches,' a training manual written for the project.  The vital characteristics of smaller membership churches and the nature and origin of the office of elder are presented that these elders and churches may more effectively function in the upbuilding of the body of Christ. The author includes a study of attitudes toward persons with disabilities, and two questionnaires.  Some pastoral care theories and practices are reviewed.  Conclusions are affirmative of contributions made by pastors with disabilities.  Those who have 'been there' do create a better sense of rapport with clients or parishioners going through painful life experiences. The study includes a look at how worship and financial stewardship are linked.  A survey was made of 32 Presbyterian churches, each with 2000 members or more.  Active laity and clergy attitudes and practices were uncovered.  Campaign practices were surveyed.
