Questionnaires were sent to all 43 congregations, and all were returned.  Data was also collected from the 1997 PCA Yearbook.  The churches were then ranked, and five each were selected from the top, middle, and bottom third, and their pastors interviewed concerning the missions giving of their congregations. The Book of Jude is used as an example of dealing with Gnosticism's influence on the congregation. Then an historical analysis of Irenaeus's christology in his anti-Gnostic work shows the importance of affirming the deity of the historical Jesus when addressing Gnostic trends. Biblical exegesis demonstrates that baptism, though multivalent, is the rite of entrance into the new community established by the redeeming work of Christ.  An historical survey of the Reformed tradition, giving special attention to the work of John Calvin and the documents of the Westminster Assembly, concludes that the Reformed tradition has held to a highly developed baptismal theology, seeing the sacrament not as a mere symbol but as an instrumental means of grace.  Baptismal theology has, however, become a source of debate and division, often focused on the question of 'baptismal regeneration.' Answering that question requires first clarifying what is meant by transformation, a term often used loosely in the current discussion of organizational change. This study proposes a specific understanding of missional transformation and examines one small urban congregation's four-year journey to become a missional community. The Gospel and our Culture Network's eight 'patterns of missional faithfulness' are the benchmarks used to evaluate the change that has taken place at North Presbyterian Church. Even survivors who expected the death suffer and do not know how to deal with it. The death of their loved one demands they deal with the experience of death whether they want to or not. Many Korean-American pastors and congregations would like to comfort them but may not know how. Korean-American survivors may even be ignored by their pastors and churches. As a Korean-American chaplain, even I sometimes feel challenged to know how to care for them. I would like to see Korean-American people cared for by Korean-American congregations. But I also want Korean-Americans to be cared for by other Christians. My purpose in this dissertation is to help improve the way Korean-American pastors and their congregations care for survivors. Since this is a broad topic, I have decided to narrow my project by focusing on survivors of natural and unexpected death of adults in Korean-American
