There is also a great need for pastoral leadership; this need seems to be increasing. This author, in an attempt to gain a better understanding of what is needed to lead the church within the presbytery he serves, set out to study the pastoral and leadership styles of five colleagues within the presbytery. This author solicited from each participant the biblical role models, the literature, and the people that have most greatly influenced them as a pastoral leader. Such division is contrary to biblical teaching and reflects the need for church leadership committed to unity and skilled in conflict resolution.  In this study, members of the Northumberland Presbytery Council were engaged in Bible study on Paul's call to unity and then introduced to conflict resolution theory.  Informed by surveys submitted by council members, the author explores how Northumberland Presbytery pursues unity in the midst of its diversity and conflict.
