This project features: 1. a road map of the shame process; 2. a biblical study of its theological dimension; 3. a case study illustrating its depths; and 4. a survey measuring the shift in shame source from self-judgment in first generation Japanese in Hawaii toward other-person judgment in third generation Japanese. A theological understanding of life, death and ministry was developed from biblical and secular sources.  Divided into six sessions, the educational experience utilized group discussion, audio-visual presentations, simulations, and visitation. Templer's 'Death Anxiety Scale' and subjective self-reporting were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the educational experience. The primary tool involves daily use of an imagery model outlined in Getting Well Again, (Simonton, Simonton, and Creighton) with five persons whose physical dysfunction of prolonged duration serves as an indicator of stress.  The group meets weekly for reporting and sharing for a three month period.  A pre-test and post-test procedure uses the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (Spielberger, Gorsuch, and Luschene). This study is theologically informed by the concept of faith as grace with courage, the power enabling individuals to encounter and calm the anxiety of finitude.  The research designed is quasi-experimental using a pretest, posttest and comparison group.  It is an outcome study. Total participants in the study numbered 68.  Statistical analysis consisted of an analysis of variance and linear step regression of gain scores.  The research hypothesis was affirmed at the .05 level of significance.  In addition, trends were studied and reported in relation to diagnosis, sexual and marital
