His congregation is made up of soldiers who are twenty to twenty-two and do not like the army life.  However, the soldiers encounter religions by choice in the military service.  Many soldiers come into contact with Christianity.  The author has thought about what these young soldiers want in their own spiritual lives and how the military church can help them. The author therefore asked the following questions regarding military mission in the light of pastoral care: (1) What is the meaning of military service for men, and what is the meaning of the period of military service in the life cycle?  (2) What is the soldiers' life before enrollment in military service, and what do they think of their lives after their service is completed? As a result of that practice, we obtained encouraging results.  When we heard others' inner stories, we used to hastily analyze and judge them.  But now we try to listen and sympathize. It is composed of introducing the concept of the shadow in analytical psychology, through Korean tales, dreams and the stories of the Bible which dealt with the task of mid-life and the shadow, explaining the theories of some theologians who have studied the shadow in-depth and introducing the case of operating the shadow workshop and analyzing it. It provides a structure that encourages soldiers to reflect on their values, define their goals, identify and participate in activities that enhance recovery and begin their transition either back to their units or into civilian life. The cases are reviewed along four parameters that define basic conditions needed for a human being to be well and to thrive: i.e., connection, identity, freedom, and power; and from three perspectives: family systems using Edwin Friedman's work, individual psychology using Karen Horney's work, and spiritual theology using Ignatius of Loyola's Spiritual Exercises.
