It documents an action in ministry consisting of a series of ten experimental sermons which were intended to be therapeutic for listeners. These sermons began with the ten 'irrational beliefs' from Albert Ellis' rational-emotive therapy, and reframed common psychological problems in terms of the Christian gospel. Undergirding this project are the psychological studies showing that children's representations of God are usually formed from internalized images of parents; these early images of God usually remain influential in a person's life. The research was conducted by means of individual interviews with both oral questions and printed word-pairs regarding the participants' parents and their current and childhood God-images. The data showed that the survivors' God-images generally did have characteristics similar to mothers. The data also showed that generally the more severe the incest and the earlier the onset, the more negative the God-image of the survivor. The results supported the hypothesis that the teachings and practices of peacemaking created personal and relational struggles for twenty-three of the twenty-five women."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["fc8e637d-6b92-421f-936e-4844dc981265"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135142193922048,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:46:22.322Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:26:46Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:00:23Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a6ba4a14-4eb7-466a-9340-68134d652bb0","accessControl_ssim":["15cb5fb9-33ea-4567-816c-a029ca887fff"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Women experiencing ministerial burnout: becoming a 'new creation' through finding one's voice"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:26:45Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:58:18Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9e0b73e5-1fc3-4a85-9dfc-7fdc205b6c73"],"hasLease_ssim":["301a1fdb-ea6d-4453-9aa6-134920d1f272"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["A J Van Den Blink"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Mary B Wehner"],"publisher_tesim":["Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School"],"subject_tesim":["Clergy--Psychology","Women clergy","Women","Feminist psychology","Psychology","Burn out (Psychology)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This dissertation on ministerial burnout presents a dialogue between the discipline of biblical studies and feminist psychology. Four categories of brokenness--divisiveness, arrogance, idolatry, and hardness of heart--gleaned through exegesis of Paul's letters to the Corinthians and the Ephesians are explored. Five ways of knowing for women--'silence,' as well as 'received,' 'procedural,' 'subjective,' and 'constructivist' knowing--attributed to Mary Belenky and her research group are considered. The methodology of the praxis circle, including the movements of formation, event, self-interest, theological assumptions, social science assumptions, and new praxis, is employed. Ten stories based on interviews are presented. Implications for pastoral counselors working with women experiencing ministerial burnout include the relevance of Paul's categories and Belenky's ways of knowing, the appropriateness of 'mending brokenness' as an image of reconciliation and the importance of storytelling in 'finding one's voice'."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128477291773952,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:00:26.177Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:08:26Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:14:06Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1a43f5d7-853e-4d62-8985-75ec70eede6b","accessControl_ssim":["9ea49b33-35d8-4a30-a8a4-bb34261fddc4"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The doctrine of immortality in Eastern Orthodox tradition: an analysis from the perspectives of depth psychology and personal experience"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:08:24Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:54:13Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7fe91233-f946-4cf7-99b3-040fc34caca7"],"hasLease_ssim":["c086aa6b-1084-432e-aa22-1a40b144e35c"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["William Ventimiglia"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Stavros Kortmas"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Orthodox Eastern Church","Death--Near-death experiences","Immortality","Soul--Christianity","Psychology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The concept of the immortality of the soul is presented from historical, psychological, experiential and phenomenological viewpoints.
