A complex statistical study involving the chi square was used to determine the accuracy of the thesis.  A testing procedure employing the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory and the Spiritual Orientation Profile was administered to 100 lay people and 100 clergy persons and the personalities and prayer lives were examined. Pastors face this societal stress, plus additional anxieties stemming from their ministry. The resultant effect is harmful, physically and emotionally, to the minister.  The writer theorized that pastors could learn coping skills to limit the impact of the stress they faced.  Coping skills dealing with three major areas of ministry stress were presented in a seminar forum to a select group of pastors.  A pre-post stress test was given the participants. The program consisted of four children's sermons, four adult sermons, a nine-hour workshop, and four weekly seminars.  The author believed that by presenting sound biblical and psychological principles and personal experiences related to self-esteem, participants would show an improvement in their own level of self-esteem.  It was the writer's hypothesis that by helping the participants change the way they thought about themselves, they would change the way they felt about themselves.  Evaluation instruments included the Personal Orientation Inventory, the Taylor-Johnson Temperament Analysis, and the Tennessee Self Concept Scale. Statistical analysis indicated no change; however, both the pre- and post-test scores of the participant apprentices resembled very closely those of previously successful church planter apprentices. Analysis of the information generated by questionnaires via telephone interviews indicated the orientation produced positive change, both hypothesized and additional.
