These images appear to arise from the unconscious as primitive mythological motifs. The author calls their projection the 'ordaining' phenomenon. When it occurs the event raises many issues: what triggers it? What is its scope? What are its implications for healing and growth? What are the symbols and archetypal images that constellate and to what processes do they point? Are they positive or negative? Do they enhance or restrict the counseling process? Finally, how can the pastoral counselor make use of these insights in the peculiar ministry of pastoral counseling? The myths function as neurotic defenses for the counselee. For this reason the task of pastoral counseling is described as a demythologizing."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133451638800384,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:19:30.084Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:51:36Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:30:35Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e467acb8-da4b-4d59-adb1-767bab997594","accessControl_ssim":["da4d7fd5-21e6-4296-8ee5-abb1d00569c9"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Humor in the psychotherapeutic process"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:51:35Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:39:58Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["cec2a691-59b4-4e16-8d9a-423757b680b8"],"hasLease_ssim":["b51a0d79-fc83-406d-abc5-4639bf0d0ed1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["Jeri Babinsky"],"year_tesim":["1988"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["George Brennan"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Life","Psychotherapy","Wit and humor--Religious aspects","Psychology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This paper considers the relationship of humor to issues of meaning and purpose in life. They also should ask themselves whether they have the personal and educational resources to counsel borderline clients."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Christian Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["795851c5-e081-4353-9c00-2c554dd1d015"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134994539741184,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:44:01.509Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:31:35Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:21:02Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"629646af-b475-48cd-8597-e03dc47437ba","accessControl_ssim":["f3189c48-608c-43a0-a407-551f9e747f01"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Three types of religious belief: an exploration of religious belief in the context of psychotherapy"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:31:33Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:01:09Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9f17ebed-90a0-47e6-b43b-b6a041fd5760"],"hasLease_ssim":["c82f14b4-ed69-4879-8147-0661ba022433"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["J Earl Thompson"],"year_tesim":["1987"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Kenneth C Ruge"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Belief and doubt","Case method","Psychotherapy","Psychology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project explores the relationship between religious belief and psychic functioning. The hypothesis is that religious belief provides a healing and defensive influence in psychological change. The goal of the project is to help therapists better understand religious belief in its particular psychological context. By using three typologies with a case study method, the author finds that belief and affiliation serve intrapsychic functions unique to individual personality. When equipped with this understanding, the therapist is able to make better alliances and interpretations. The basic finding of the project is the need to appreciate, understand and respect the power of religious belief in the personality."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133551903637504,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:21:05.703Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:31:35Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:23:25Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"803e252f-cc35-4bd8-99ad-ebfd97601f3c","accessControl_ssim":["fc815402-7ef2-4adb-a529-bcf67f9e82a4"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The role of confession in psychotherapy and the recovery process of the alcoholic"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:31:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:55:09Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["bd69b830-8ad7-4e97-a293-5c44ba5fd2e0"],"hasLease_ssim":["dc3e846c-79de-4810-9652-11aac1ac94a3"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["Henry C Brooks"],"year_tesim":["1987"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Suzanne J Nilsson"],"keyword_tesim":["Pastoral counselors and clients"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Alcohol","Confession","Alcoholism","Psychotherapy"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Confession plays a significant and indispensable role in psychotherapy, in the recovery process of the alcoholic, and in pastoral counseling. It is the first stage of the psychotherapeutic process, and can help to locate the specific nature of a person's guilt, remorse, depression, and sadness. Confession, along with a call upon some power greater than one's self, plays a vital part in the recovery process of the alcoholic. It is a central thrust of the program of Alcoholics Anonymous. The pastoral counselor is a therapist but also a pastor, a representative of God. The element of confession becomes sharper in pastoral counseling because of the pastor's dual role. In today's society confession is a neglected, but vitally important, resource in these fields and in the church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133701158993920,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:23:28.045Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:08:56Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:09:23Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4d4029f8-10d0-40a7-b8d6-fc3141ebc42f","accessControl_ssim":["ee594eea-ec3d-40a9-8dd5-dfc9d33d01d1"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Faithing therapy: a reconstructive method"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:08:55Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:24:15Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5361f659-dbdf-442b-b31b-26e2194414e5"],"hasLease_ssim":["cc4b129a-bcd7-4d74-a056-ecefe9f579b2"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Leroy T Howe"],"year_tesim":["1987"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["A Eugene Dyess"],"publisher_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology Southern Methodist University"],"subject_tesim":["Meditation--Therapeutic use","Psychotherapy","Counseling","Faith","Psychology","Experience (Religion)","Schemas (Psychology)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project explicates the theory and practice of a specifically Christian religious experience psychotherapy method. Dialogical counseling and guided meditation are its major methodological divisions. The meditation component leads the client's psyche into a Christian religious state by following the intensified faithing schema. The schema is comprised of archetypal imagery and Christian belief statements which activate the client's affectively charged cognitive faithing structures. Creative growth symbols and crisis intervention procedures restructure preconscious negative mental-emotional-spiritual concepts which then tend to become behaviorally concrete. The thesis is: Faithing is the psyche's primary operation. Faithing therapy rests upon academic research, and is validated by thirty years of observation in parish and clinical practice."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["9d359def-dc0f-4ac7-a978-8df771bc0984"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799720653694173184,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:09:24.134Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":43,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
