The study used a narrative questionnaire of nearly one hundred Reformed pastors throughout the United States and semi-structured interviews with four additional pastors preaching from within a Reformed theological understanding.  The study revealed a heavy reliance on writing in both the preparation and delivery of sermons.  It found that both pastors and congregants deeply care about sermon delivery.  Multiple approaches to this practice were uncovered, influenced by the preacher's habit, personality, theological beliefs, and training.  A high percentage of pastors lacked training in sermon delivery. Through careful attention to and practice of voice, facial expressions, and body movements, a preacher can not only increase the effectiveness of their sermons, but a preacher can also find their own voice in preaching.  This conclusion was reached following two years of work on the performative aspects of preaching.
