By eliminating the use of printed words that are either read silently or aloud, and replacing them with biblical storytelling and the use of digital media, the phenomenology of 'transmediatization' was explored as a means in which to deepen the meaning of the worship experience for members of St. Giles Anglican Church, and to consider its validity toward Anglican liturgical renewal in our present post-literate digital culture. The problem that the project addresses is the challenge of introducing and using media in the life and ministry of all churches, regardless of the demographics of the congregation in relation to size, age or even financial status. The objective of the project is to show media as a means of grace to be used in the life of all churches, to give examples of its use, and to make the medium holy. When the technology of media is introduced (prevenience), explained and exemplified (justification), enabling all persons to find value in its use to proclaim the gospel, making it holy in the eyes of the local congregation (sanctification), another means of grace is recognized in the 21st century church's mission efforts. The guidelines are intended to give direction to the pastors of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Peoria, Illinois, and also to assist other pastors. Since the pastors at Redeemer Lutheran Church currently use projection media for sermons, this project was intended to hone and clarify what they are already doing. Since many pastors seek to use projection to enhance their sermons, this project was designed to assist them in doing so. The primary component of this study was a series of 8 sermons preached by the researcher. The subjects in the study were tested for retention and comprehension of the sermon material as well as slide content. The study actually produced the opposite of what was expected, but on the basis of the acquired information, pastors were able to make adjustments to their usage and the research provided reasoned guidelines reflecting what was learned. In this project, visual aids primarily referred to objects used in sermons for illustrative purposes. The researcher gave an extensive biblical and theological rationale for the use of visual aids in teaching spiritual truth. He also provided significant scientific evidence for the importance of the visual sense in learning and retention. The project incorporated an 8-week sermon series and a focus group to measure the effectiveness of visual aids with regard to retention.
