By examining three Puritan figures, it seeks to demonstrate how the Puritans dedicated work and its rewards to God's glory and the common good. Current research is used to study trends in giving and stewardship strategies among evangelical Christians. This thesis explores one enduring error which may have served to drive a tragically unnecessary stake into the heart of the Puritan vision. By examining Puritan and Indian relations in seventeenth century southern New England, this study demonstrates that Puritan theology fostered attitudes and a government policy destructive of Algonquin people in New England.  The failure to develop a just policy toward Native Americans in turn brought Puritan theology into conflict with itself and hastened the collapse of Puritan rule.
