It relates the journey of an established white congregation reaching out to its diverse neighbors with Christ's love and bringing them into its fellowship. It describes five phases during those 10 years, each with its respective challenges and breakthroughs. It argues that multiethnic congregations constitute the New Testament ecclesiological norm rather than those formed by the homogeneous unit principle because they more fully express the nature of the church and its reconciling gospel and have a missional advantage in bridging to Hindu, Buddhist and Muslim populations who have migrated into their communities."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130923808325632,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:39:19.357Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:23:34Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:04:35Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8764ff1b-b2e5-4ace-a69e-e679035ba14a","accessControl_ssim":["1e1868a0-f22a-4606-97c8-aedcefac62da"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A welcoming life: developing and testing an immersion series study designed to help people reach out to and welcome the stranger in their midst"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:23:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:07:11Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e8d1e1df-1a6d-498f-ae94-0e716f7c509f"],"hasLease_ssim":["1df25c7f-9682-45ff-9a87-7d3de4c5de8e"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Lewis A Parks"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"location_tesim":["West Virginia"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The polycentric model is where the 'mother' church and a cluster of one or more 'ethnic' churches operate separately on the same campus. Very few of these churches have transitioned to become truly multiracial and continue to either decline or plateau. This dissertation examines the history, underlying assumptions, possible influence, and effectiveness of polycentric churches, and provides a critique of such churches against a theological backdrop. The dissertation's goal is to educate and persuade racially homogeneous churches, in general, and polycentric churches, in particular, to consider transitioning toward multiracial congregations in order to achieve real church health and growth."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132589445087232,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:05:47.832Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:04:14Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:23:26Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"228c1f70-8257-4edd-8fb6-f19087433cc8","accessControl_ssim":["708055f6-f78a-45ea-a7e2-b565b192f26e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A tale of two cities divided: in search of radical reconciliation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:04:09Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:09:27Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["cda7e2f9-96f0-43ff-9f51-0db35b68e3ea"],"hasLease_ssim":["7d2a1af3-8925-420d-b4c4-6fdec62e03ab"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary of the Presbyterian Church"],"advisor_tesim":["Kristen Deede Johnson"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"location_tesim":["Michigan--Benton Harbor"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Dan J Smith"],"publisher_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary (Holland, MI)"],"subject_tesim":["Narrative theology","Race relations","Church"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["My congregation is not racially diverse. The theological frame supporting this report is the interaction between Peter and Cornelius in Acts 10."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128390097436672,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:59:03.021Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:49:26Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:25:00Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2548ee05-00bf-4a28-a1e3-25bcf7f7f113","accessControl_ssim":["37802147-d45c-4255-bccf-816bd98ca268"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Case studies of three select multiethnic churches: their motivation and strategies in being multiethnic"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:49:25Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:13:52Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d614da68-9879-45fc-8fea-f92a8c195feb"],"hasLease_ssim":["ebc41c55-686a-4564-936d-a8d250d157f9"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Willie O Peterson","Michael O Emerson"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Edward Ming Lee"],"publisher_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Cultural pluralism","Social integration","Race relations","Church","Church work","Ethnicity","Church--Catholicity","Church--Unity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This applied research project considers the multiethnic church movement phenomenon, with particular attention given to the different motivations and strategies of three select multiethnic churches. Although each of these multiethnic churches have come to the same conclusion regarding the importance of being united and inclusive based on their biblical understanding of the New Testament, they have important differences in their strategies. Upon closer examination of each of these representative multiethnic churches, one finds variations because of differing motivations for doing multiethnic ministry. This study focuses on examining these variations. The larger purpose in bringing these distinctions to light is to help multiethnic church planters and pastors better formulate strategies that are consistent with their motivation and their theological rationale for developing a multiethnic ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130030027309056,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:25:06.980Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":7,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
