The method used is a case study of Memorial United Methodist Church, a congregation which committed itself to changing its racial composition. The case study provides implications for other congregations attempting a similar re-creation as well as suggestions for various levels of the United Methodist connectional system. The project particularly addresses the role of the pastor in the change process."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717191699922944,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:14:22.519Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:19:32Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:28:28Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e68e2266-98ac-4f0c-9112-82b34d4e2d61","accessControl_ssim":["840e6ef2-86d6-4eba-9495-8955b48d0ef2"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Preaching in a modern Corinth: one pastor's preaching journey in an urban congregation facing racial change"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:19:31Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:43:27Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c766616b-d199-47bf-89ed-da4173dd6cea"],"hasLease_ssim":["11148183-2072-4f4c-91de-3bc5af46c7aa"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"advisor_tesim":["Frederick A Niedner"],"year_tesim":["1995"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Donald B Gourlay"],"keyword_tesim":["Church and community"],"publisher_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"subject_tesim":["Race relations","Preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This is a study of the effects of preaching on the culture of a congregation experiencing racial change.
