After defining prayer as a receptive mode of consciousness akin to meditation, prayer is further categorized into three levels: detachment prayer, dialogue prayer and discovery prayer. Each is related to both Christian tradition and the experiences of 'runner-prayer-ers'.  Subsequent chapters deal with such subjects as holistic health, auto-hypnosis, the runner's 'high,' journal writing and personality changes. A content analysis process was applied to stressful event descriptions submitted by clergy. Based on factor analysis of the reported frequencies of occurrence and relative effects of events, a list of 44 events named the Pennsylvania Life Events Scale for Clergy, or PLESC, was composed. Physiological and theological aspects of the processes of healing and wholeness were discussed. In addition nurses were polled concerning their opinions about the pastor's role in health care.  The surveys indicated that visiting, worship (prayer and sacraments) and counseling were the most important roles of the pastor in relation to a health crisis.  In a post test survey these activities were seen by the laity as a significant part of a person's treatment towards healing. The study discusses the traditional Chinese family-orientation and its continued influence in the values, attitudes and behavior of the English-educated, urban middle-class Singapore Chinese.  The introduction of Western cultural norms through the process of modernization was readily accepted as a basis for marriage and family life.  However, the continued influence of the traditional family-orientation was to be a significant cause of dysfunctional marriages among these couples. The proposed model was tested with five selected test training groups and evaluated by trainee-evaluators of the same test groups.  The result was positive. Investigating alcoholism-complicated marriages and a control group of non-alcholic couples revealed that non-drinking marriages can experience superior marital satisfaction.  Two factors contributed to this satisfaction: each marriage partner took responsibility for his or her own growth and change and both mates shared a common spiritual life.
