The historical and sociological background of the Caribbean immigrant family was researched, and a model for addressing their needs was designed in the form of a nine-session seminar series focusing on the areas identified above. The project examines the basic issues involved in contextualization and offers a defense for the procedure used.  The writer identifies biblical principles of leadership by examining biblical terminology, teaching passages, and character studies.  Traditional patterns of leadership among Alaskan natives as found in the ethnographic literature is described. At the time of its schism from the Roman Catholic church in the Philippines, it received tremendous support from the Filipino masses who saw it to be the embodiment of their religious and political aspirations.  In the Philippines, culture and religion, and church and society are inextricably intertwined.  The history of the Philippine Independent Church cannot be understood apart from the history of the Filipino people.  It is a history of continuous struggle for freedom, identity, and sovereignty. The Filipinos were colonized by Spain for over 300 years, by the United States for 50 years, and was occupied by Japan for 4 years. Throughout its colonial history, the Philippines experienced revolts and uprisings culminating in the Revolution of 1896-1898. The context is the 19th century East-West encounter of religions.  The paper focuses on the interaction between the Brahmo Samaj of India and American Unitarianism.  Its methodology is historical-phenomenological.  It concludes that Mozoomdar's visits in 1883, 1893 and 1900 as a missionary of the New Dispensation evoked considerable response in America.  His role in the Parliament of Religions in 1893 was significant and his visits helped institutionalize relations between Indian Brahmos and American Unitarians. In order to minister effectively, a theology of immigration is formulated and strategies are developed along the lines of the 'Sa-rang Bang' movement for self-actualization, the 'Chi-geh Koon' model of burden sharing and bilingual/bicultural ministry. The study discusses the traditional Chinese family-orientation and its continued influence in the values, attitudes and behavior of the English-educated, urban middle-class Singapore Chinese.  The introduction of Western cultural norms through the process of modernization was readily accepted as a basis for marriage and family life.  However, the continued influence of the traditional family-orientation was to be a significant cause of dysfunctional marriages among these couples. At the conclusion, lay-shepherds had taken responsibility for one another with skills and perspectives of pastoral care and expressed growth in personality and spirituality.
