The central thesis of this study is that there is an organic connection between text and sermon at the level of form.  Throughout the study it is assumed that form and content are inseparable but distinguishable. After surveying the perceived spiritual formation needs of students in one seminary, four teaching/learning activities were designed and implemented.  Although the whole project was carried out within a period of only eight weeks, there was a favorable response to the learning experiences and some progress in the use of spiritual disciplines was revealed. An instrument of evaluation consisting of interviews with principals and questionnaires of students and alumni was prepared and administered. The findings were analyzed.  It was observed that since institutional integration was not possible, nor advisable, the best way to cooperate and share resources would be to suggest degree program integration. This would assist to integrate knowledge, experience, and practical skills in a balanced way. The author did library research to read and compile data.  The aim of the manual was to draw together information from instructional materials in the pastoral ministry.  With his reading audiences in mind, the author treated the materials with some degree of simplicity and clarity. Twenty theological students from five nations in Eastern Africa participated in the training.  The author's teaching methods included experiential learning techniques.  He administered the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and the LIFO Survey to facilitate greater self-understanding.  He used evaluation forms and various other instruments to help the participants realize their strengths and weaknesses as leaders.  The author concludes that effects on the students' skills were in the cognitive areas of self-awareness and understanding of effective principles and practices of leadership.
