If it is, who decides what the center and those boundaries are? The church needs a model which accepts as a cultural given the moral autonomy of the individual, yet which also believes the Christian community has a significant role to play in helping its members make their moral decisions. Since moral authority no longer comes from the 'top down,' does that mean the church must leave each individual alone to be his/her own authority on all moral issues? Or is there a middle ground where genuine moral discourse can take place? The local congregation offers the best hope for the kind of moral dialogue and decision-making which accepts the reality of individual autonomy while re-creating the possibility of community consensus on moral norms."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["0f245891-e4c1-47d9-842b-9aefbafae138"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135384477892608,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:50:13.383Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:17:40Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:48:27Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"56d7e7af-e32f-4a00-a9dd-b7faf170d964","accessControl_ssim":["c90d20bf-9568-49bb-a570-2df7b4306f60"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Charting the confluence: theology for ministry in a pluralistic environment"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:17:39Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:41:01Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["57fc9151-f1ed-47e8-9e8d-9abb78f68850"],"hasLease_ssim":["81c22403-58ca-413a-88a5-008756778d69"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Marjorie Suchocki"],"year_tesim":["1991"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The models were then used with both a reflection group and a survey to test the hypothesis in the context of the Navy Chaplain Corps. The data suggests that the hypothesis is often true. This project, conducted at St Mark United Methodist Church, Springfield, Ohio, developed a process to help the congregation determine its identity and purpose and to evaluate fairly its potential ministry. It addressed the problem through a process of self-assessment. The candidate provided leadership through collaboration and analysis. As a result of the process the congregation was able to develop a statement of mission and to identify new directions and possibilities for its ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["United Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["f0f9c284-37b6-440c-96ab-39e6509e82ee"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129125449105409,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:10:44.308Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:24:56Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:23:30Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e0b9aac3-a0a8-4abb-b043-5a41465d38e3","accessControl_ssim":["81320fe4-8672-4d0b-9110-2ab47f32f780"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A study of the Holy Spirit to help Christians with differing views to understand and accept each other"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:24:55Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:33:53Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["fcc635f7-966b-49c0-ac3b-23ae28ff5611"],"hasLease_ssim":["2729b80e-1bb5-46dc-8e63-bac07e1241a9"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["United Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Tyron Inbody"],"year_tesim":["1985"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Thomas E Brown"],"publisher_tesim":["United Theological Seminary (OH)"],"subject_tesim":["Education--Curricula","Religious pluralism","Holy Spirit--History of doctrines","Christian education","Miller United Methodist Church (Johnstown, Ohio)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of the project is to develop a course of study which deals with the doctrine of the Holy Spirit from an historical perspective so that Christians with different views of the work of the Spirit can come to know, understand and accept each other.
