Yet, through video partnerships, these churches have a chance to be or become missional. The nature of these rural video partnerships has been to help existing but dying rural churches find support and facilitate its health and life. This project surveyed past and present video partners to help determine whether the partnerships were or are achieving those goals. Through the analysis of First United Methodist Church, Atlantic, the author was able to identify key components that had once enabled and empowered this congregation to effectively be and do church. The author conducted interviews, implemented Kevin Ford's Transforming Church Index, and developed a small group Bible study exploring these principles. The results revealed the need to develop a greater awareness of evangelism and discipleship, while focusing on elements of Celtic monastic principles already in place. The church must build upon strengths shared with the Celtic monastic communities to be more effective with evangelism and discipleship. Ten Likert statements and three survey questions were designed to discover the mistakes that, destroy trust, prevent unity, and inhibit change. The discovery survey revealed nine common mistakes, the greatest of which was behavior which caused a lack of trust. the two methods of collecting data revealed inconsistencies in congregant responses between the Likert statements and the survey questions. The author used inteviews, surveys, observations, and group discussions with participants to find the current state of the congregation. Listening to various voices from different people in the community enabled us to see where the church stands and where to take the next step. A forty-question church effectiveness survey, developed for the purpose of identifying effective rural churches, was mailed to the pastors of sixty-seven rural Reformed churches in northern Iowa.
