One solution has been to prescribe the spiritual practice of Sabbath-keeping. Unfortunately, this raises multiple issues for the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) pastor. Therefore, the central question that guided this project was: How do SDA pastors practice and experience the Sabbath? The goal was to gain a thick, in-depth description of Sabbath-keeping. In order to accomplish this the project's strategy was rooted in a phenomenological form of research, namely the qualitative interview. Both clergy and laity are asked to explore the need for self-care and how Sabbath might be employed as a spiritual practice.  The implications for not observing Sabbath in one's life and ministry are noted experientially, through research and the use of a congregational teaching tool.  The author utilizes surveys, teaching objectives, and standard research to promote Sabbath as an instrument for fostering spiritual awareness and healing.
