It is written because in a time where the Church in the West is in decline, it seems most necessary to deepen the understanding with regards to theological challenges that come with the missiological context of the secular West. The methodology is based upon descriptive research, which was guided by a main research question. The answering of the main question was done through answering four subquestions, and those four answers were key to most of the main content in the thesis. The first chapter starts with an introduction that describes the methodology, which is followed by a review of literature. Chapter two is about the characterization of a reformational theology of ministry, which is presented with the three principles of Gospel, Culture, and Movement. Chapter three then deals with the characterization of the secular West, in which it is first about the distinctiveness of the West and then about the concepts of postmodernity and post-Christian as essential insights into secularism. After that comes chapter four that has the focus on the characterization of the missional Church, which is described though an exploration of the missiological foundational elements of discipleship and faithful presence. The fifth chapter starts with summarizing the findings, followed by describing the characterization of the missional Church in the secular West, which is done by elaboration on six basic elements. These six basic elements are: Christian high theory, post-Christendom evangelistic dynamic, category defying social vision, counter-catechesis for a digital age, faithful presence in public spheres, and grace to the point. This fifth chapter ends with the conclusion that he secular West needs a healthy missional Church, which implies a reformational theology of ministry that is fruitful through proper incorporation of the three principles of Gospel, Culture, and Movement. And part of that conclusion is also that in order for the (missional) Church to be healthy it needs to embrace discipleship and faithful presence at the core of its (missiological) teaching. It is a conclusion that can also be understood with the two foundational commissions in the Bible: Genesis 1:26 and Matthew 28:18-20. Obeying this complete calling for Christians, so taking proper care of the world as well as making disciples, can be seen as the Biblical answer to the main research question of how reformational theology of ministry influences missiology in the secular West."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://www.covenantlibrary.org/etd/2024/van_Wijngaarden_Andreas_MABTS_2024.pdf"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["library@covenantseminary.edu"],"_version_":1829687879958265856,"timestamp":"2025-04-17T21:45:38.156Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-04-10T13:33:13Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-04-10T13:33:23Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"24ab4e22-443c-44f4-b95e-230d7d35f1e5","accessControl_ssim":["bedb3530-4a78-4bcf-9e9d-04d7861c395f"],"hasRelatedMediaFragment_ssim":["8c1f585e-6687-4b41-ad4b-da6330fb880f"],"hasRelatedImage_ssim":["8c1f585e-6687-4b41-ad4b-da6330fb880f"],"depositor_ssim":["mgalica@pts.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["mgalica@pts.edu"],"title_tesim":["Transmissions from the Bunkered: Insights into Evangelism in a Post-Christian Era from the Spiritual Stories of Apatheist Members of an Online Community"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-04-10T13:33:12Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-04-10T13:33:12Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e611274b-edf0-4599-881c-84dd5ded691c"],"hasLease_ssim":["21253150-a0a4-4e26-a0bc-f1d361ff0f0c"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"format_tesim":["PDF"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2025"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Although he conducted the field work during COVID-19 lockdowns and disruption that goal was substantially achieved. Biblical study, theological reflection, and sociological insights formed the foundation for the author’s development of the training course. That research shaped a congregational survey regarding attitudes to personal evangelism, which in turn fed into an expert sample of ministry leaders and evangelistic trainers. In the light of these inputs the author wrote and piloted a four-week evangelistic training course. Course participant responses enabled the author to make a preliminary assessment regarding the effectiveness of the training course. The author then suggested a trajectory along which he could develop the course, and supplement it with additional support and resources. He also mapped out a ministry plan for the construction of an evangelistic ecosystem within a local church, incorporating an adapted version of the piloted course alongside additional groups and further input. The needs identified in this project regarding evangelistic training were greater than could be met in a short four-week course, but the author identified sufficient reasons for confidence that, alongside further ministry inputs, such a course could play a vital part in shifting a church’s culture in a more evangelistic direction."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718799436414976,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:39:55.776Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:32:40Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:47:51Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7f519c31-9cb7-48f0-bd12-668c31ba5360","accessControl_ssim":["ab7da7ba-c07c-4ee3-942e-a078c08de09e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Inviting Confucius to church: awareness of the missional strategies in the postmodern EFC"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:32:39Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:53:09Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ad067c10-fe4b-4c05-a5dd-ef26c5b3325b"],"hasLease_ssim":["153fc1bf-9d02-4457-bb93-74145cf1cb32"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Paul Lim"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Albany Fu-Jen Lee"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Secularism","Social ethics","Christianity and Confucianism","Asian Americans--Religion","Chinese Americans","Evangelical Formosan Churches","Church work with immigrants","Virtues"],"language_tesim":["English"],"alternative_title_tesim":["Inviting Confucius to church: awareness of the missional strategies in the postmodern Evangelical Formosan Churches"],"abstract_tesim":["In the midst of the challenges the EFC (Evangelical Formosan Churches) are facing, the increasing demand of constructive interreligious dialogue with Confucian cultures offers an opportunity, forty years after its pioneer church was founded in downtown Los Angeles, to reshape and thrive in America, especially within the Confucian Chinese immigrant community. The project thesis then explores what might be the kinds of out-reach programs that would speak to a very secular community."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799719699213189120,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:54:13.869Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"D.Min.
