Utilizing a Twelve Step-oriented methodology, the writer advocates a theocentric as opposed to a humanistic approach for improving self-esteem. Working with women at one California-managed prison--Northern California Women's Facility--the writer researches the variables affecting Christian converts who live in the environment of incarceration.  Quantitative and qualitative comparison is performed between a target and control group. Research reveals that incarcerated women's self-esteem is enhanced with consistent counseling, monitoring, and covenant goals. The program consisted of eight two-hour sessions, meeting one evening each week.  The author believed that by exposing women to women in the Scriptures through the lens of the work of women scholars, the women's self-esteem would be enhanced. The Hudson Index of Self-Esteem was the measure of the women's esteem.  A baseline test was given followed by the test taken at the end of each session.
