There is much voluntary outpouring of remorse, guilt and shame in the confession of sin. In the light of self-psychology and object relation theory, this study indicates how narcissistic wounds are often at the heart of confessions, and how the priest hearing confession can more effectively address the healing of these wounds. Participants completed a full one-day retreat which included lectures, participative exercises, spiritual disciplines such as formational prayer, and Lectio Divina. Pre and post tests were given to measure the results. The results of the data revealed increased movement in the participants' self-esteem. Further positive measurement evidenced a desire for Christian fellowship and a deeper relationship with God.
