The premise for the project was that a call to salvation is a call to ministry and that all believers are responsible for carrying out the mission of the church. Korean scholars to date follow an old tradition which derives 'diakonos' from 'dia' (through) and 'konis' (dust.)  But this derivation is a case of confusion of 'diakonio' (pulvere, to in the dust) with 'diakoneo' (to serve.)  The author exegetes Acts 6 discussing the Grecian Jews, the Hebrews, and the Samaritans. The data from one hundred clergy and lay leaders reveals that both clergy and lay participate fully in three primary functions of ministry.  Priest's tend to emphasize the ordering and meaning giving functions, while laity emphasize the serving function.  Clergy exercise leadership in the ministries of worship, education, and pastoral care.  Laity lead in the ministries of stewardship, evangelism, and service.
