The program stressed the leader's responsibilities of leading, planning, and decision making; the leader's responsibility to meet the psychological, sociological, and self-acualization needs of his or her followers; and the leader's responsibility to use appropriate leadership styles.  Seventy-three percent of the forty-two participants scored seventy or above on the daily tests. Forty-one participants worked in a ministry project. The project also considers the transitional diaconate (for those to be ordained to the presbyterate).  It explores the current expression of the permanent diaconate and questions raised within each communion.  The author concludes that the permanent diaconate as an ordained office of ministry should be discontinued and that the transitional diaconate should be retained as an ordained office, but should be revised to respond to the servant mission of the church. The motif of servanthood is explored by an exegetical study of the servant's identity and mission.  The implications of servanthood are suggested for the ministry of the church in general and to pastoral care as one particular aspect of servanthood.
