This study examines the role of the churches as an important part of downtown Washington DC experienced the trauma of urban renewal. Initially, the church's response was dominated by institutional concerns of building and maintaining itself. Slowly, patterns of community involvement and mission evolved. As a means of understanding this sense of mission, the biblical concept of diakonia is studied, and servanthood is proposed as an appropriate and adequate biblical and theological definition of the church's participation in the life of the city."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717684180418560,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:22:12.185Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:59:16Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:15:16Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"aaae5df2-4543-4275-8786-58b9ffc99999","accessControl_ssim":["b2dedf0f-7d0d-4ed5-b8d2-fef9e2973f78"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An urban congregation's movement from survival to servanthood: a stance for the renewal of ministry and mission in modern metropolis"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:59:15Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:03:52Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["0e25c7cf-4b58-47f9-89ec-db6d0f686ef3"],"hasLease_ssim":["cee97a37-7b3d-4b09-8798-64ab5e2012f7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Donald Kinney"],"year_tesim":["1978"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Instead of focusing upon futile efforts to re-capture a family structured church, the congregation were directed toward discovering opportunities for ministries to their own unique environment. Ministries were developed for older single apartment residents, single young adults, and a utilization of facilities for 3 separate ethnic congregations.
