Using a phenomenological approach and practical theological method, the author provided six in-depth case studies of women who had completed CPE supervisory training.  The author concluded that shame, sexuality and speech act as hinges on a door; i.e., they can act to either shut out or open up the way towards collegiality in ministry. Using the creation narratives and parallel New Testament themes, biblical bases for a theology of intimate friendship are described.  The psychological need for friendship in all stages of adulthood is documented.  Societal, sexual and ethical dilemmas about intimate friendships are described.
