Three years later, she was pregnant at age nineteen in her first year at the University of Toronto. This thesis addresses the issue of premarital sex among teenagers in North America. It will research theological resources in the Bible concerning premarital sex. It will provide a comparison of cultural and social analyses. The thesis will discuss the theological and ethical concerns in the debate on premarital intercourse for teenagers. Problems of premarital sex remain in our changing society, such as pregnancy, venereal diseases (VD) and sexually transmitted diseases (STD), and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). Although young people have knowledge of contraception and protection against diseases acquired during sexual intercourse, they still need to be concerned about sexual morality in our society. The thesis will imphasize Christian education as a strategy of intervention including physical and medical intervention, and theological and ethical intervention to help teenagers who are involved in premarital sex. The purpose of the thesis is to provide practical and workable assistance to those who are dealing with the issue of premarital sex among church-going teenagers and who are actually ministering to these teens, their peers, and their parents."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["7eda0323-a6d9-4fe2-807a-22620dd389a5"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128781775175680,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:05:16.555Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T05:10:00Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:12:28Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"013502c7-9bf1-4f87-b3a5-7275bb27afae","accessControl_ssim":["883b9789-8c2d-470c-828f-f16472f6cc8a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Toward a developmental theology of embodiment: formative influences of family and church on Roman Catholic women's sexual development"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T05:10:00Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:09:08Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["24abbc93-043f-4510-8ce1-09d07b0b905c"],"hasLease_ssim":["ec80bc37-b595-48d7-9099-b442a4cbde6b"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["Brita L Gill-Austern"],"year_tesim":["1996"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Violet T Grennan"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Sex--Religious aspects--Christianity","Catholic women","Sex (Psychology)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project explores how family beliefs and attitudes toward sexuality and church teaching on human sexuality influence Roman Catholic women's sexual development. The project selected 12 women ages 24 to 60, constructed a questionnaire, and administered it to members of the group in a 90-minute interview. Responses were collated, analyzed, and reviewed with reference to psychological theory, church teaching on human sexuality, and criteria that define a basic or deepening level of psychosexual integration. The project found that family and church are formative influences, along with mother-daughter relationships and the quality of core messages received in the earliest formative years.
