The first principle is that STM trip leaders must be well-equipped to train and lead their teams, and thus they will have a greater impact than their counterparts: untrained STM team leaders. The second principle is that once trained, STM trip leaders will know what to do purposely in order for them to have successful STM trips under all circumstances. The third principle is that once trained, STM trip leaders will strategically have systems in place to avoid or deal with pitfalls that tend to diminish the spiritual impact and the quality of STM trip experiences. The fourth principle is that once trained, STM trip leaders who are well equipped to train and lead their teams, become excep tionally indispensable catalysts to foster future long-term missionaries because of the quality of their previous STM trip experiences. The purpose of these case studies is to discover best practices and proven training resource materials to equip STM trip leaders and participants to have greater effectiveness and thus successful ministry in their STM trip endeavors by surveying three distinct ministries. In this project, STM trips will be defined by not only the length or duration of a specific mission trip, but also in terms of the specific ministry focus during the time frame which helps to determine its quality and effectiveness. Churches and para-church organizations will have a greater impact in their STM trips when the leaders of the teams and their participants are well trained for every assignment that encompasses their STM trips. The case study method was chosen. That allows an outside researcher flexibility to enter the context of interest, establish rapport, and to observe pertinent details and probe with formal and informal questions that will lead to deeper clarification and understanding in virtually every area of their inquiries. It also allows the researcher to administer data collection gathered from written materials as well as one-on-one interviews, in order to compare and contrast the findings. This project showed that STM trip leaders who are well equipped to train and lead their teams to have a greater impact than their counterpart, untrained STM team leaders. Also, after training STM trip leaders, they then know what to do in order to have successful STM trips under all circumstances. This research project showed there are churches and para-church ministry organizations with best training resource materials qualified to develop effective STM leaders and participants. When comparing the r esults of the three subjects in this research project, it is refreshing to discover the similarities in strong biblical convictions among them and the passionate commitment that fuels the fibers of their training resource materials to produce the kind of disciples that will glorify God on the mission field and at home."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129959033470976,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:23:59.276Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:09:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:07:29Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b58357d5-f0cc-4498-983a-5147c6cd183d","accessControl_ssim":["f2b35e67-54ab-472d-a013-d2aa482b7892"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Preparing leaders to work with new churches as short-term missionaries in Valley Rim Southern Baptist Association in Mesa, Arizona"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:09:49Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:22:21Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["fd035431-84d4-45eb-8e08-b800a23de5e6"],"hasLease_ssim":["636314fa-1fc8-4131-bac1-d665e12d8b25"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Leslie Dodrill"],"year_tesim":["2014"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Debra D Wolfrey"],"publisher_tesim":["Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Short-term missions","Missionaries--Training of","Valley Rim Southern Baptist Association"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this assignment was to train teams of short term missionaries to serve in two newly started churches, or church plants. Seven participants discovered new spiritual gifts and the majority of the group grew in confidence as to how their spiritual gifts could be used in a church plant setting. The survey was administered to two groups in different cities in Tanzania, Africa, and to several groups from Northplace Church in Sachse, Texas. The examination is based on four different hypotheses administered through a descriptive survey of twenty-one questions. Hypothesis 1 investigates whether participation in a short-term mission trip increases activity in missions both locally and beyond. Hypothesis 2 considers whether participation in the short-term mission trip increases ministry involvement in the church through an increased awareness of other socio-economic groups and cultures. Hypothesis 3 determines whether participation in the short-term mission trip increases ministry involvement in the church through missions giving. Finally, Hypothesis 4 studies whether participation in a short-term mission trip increases ministry involvement in the church through an increased participation in spiritual formation. This research includes a literature review with respect to the purpose of missions with a focus on the short-term mission trip experience. It seeks to determine if statistically significant data can be obtained for any of the four hypotheses in the two countries where the surveys were given and presents explanations for such results."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130022650576896,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:24:59.946Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:30:49Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:46:58Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"199dafde-3023-4a2b-8177-a5632b15bde1","accessControl_ssim":["93f06287-4eb5-418c-8fb6-acfb843e20f4"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Nurturing the 'Mary' side of 'Martha congregations': practicing journaling + reflection on mission trips"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:30:49Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:52:53Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["020a1ef7-0b31-47ee-a753-693779002291"],"hasLease_ssim":["b8df147a-4590-41a3-a364-7655b42478db"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Dent C Davis"],"year_tesim":["2012"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Sandra M Kern"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Short-term missions","Faith development","Spiritual exercises"],"language_tesim":["English"],"alternative_title_tesim":["Nurturing the 'Mary' side of 'Martha congregations': practicing journaling and reflection on mission trips"],"abstract_tesim":["Martha congregations are committed to hands on mission work, but they are often so busy doing good work that they neglect to develop their spiritual relationship with the Lord. Findings indicate that intentional practices of journaling and group reflecting are effective in nurturing faith development."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127633702944768,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:47:01.668Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:30:43Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:38:49Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a7a1fc5a-c377-41db-85a1-0e8672fbaa57","accessControl_ssim":["9fc0c7c0-37a8-4923-85d6-9d256bd3e9dd"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A study of short-term mission needs in the 21st century"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:30:43Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:59:27Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6106615d-40d7-4c9f-93b8-158bd2fe34c2"],"hasLease_ssim":["953a4404-84d1-4ac4-8381-036ec0cd3401"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Logos Evangelical Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Douglas Vavrosky"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Boonprasert Vijitrakul"],"publisher_tesim":["Logos Evangelical Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Short-term missions","Globalization--Religious aspects"],"language_tesim":["English"],"alternative_title_tesim":["Study of short-term mission needs in the twenty-first century"],"abstract_tesim":["Through the biblical research, studying pertinent material, his own personal experience and consultation with others, the author showed biblical models, the needs and challenges in the globalization of each era in the 21st century, discussed practical steps and principles for pre-field preparation, fruitful field work, good post-field follow up and practical methods of promoting short-term missions in the church.
