It uses his primary works (especially City of God, Confessions, On Christian teaching, Commentary on Galatians and 84 propositions from the Epistles of Romans) as they develop Paul's theology of sin. It builds a theological foundation (based on four theological issues about sin: its origin, its nature, its consequence, and its remedy) in order to establish a correct understanding of the topic of sin in a contemporary context. Ultimately, it utilizes that information to develop a practical theology that is integrated into applicable Christian living in four areas: soteriology, evangelism, ecclesiology, and discipleship. As a personality typology founded on the psychodynamics of sin in nine different self-presentations, the Enneagram can be used with a theologically based phenomenology and it identifies a direction for continued spiritual growth for each type. Workshop participants find the Enneagram useful in addressing issues of spirituality and increasing self-understanding and insight, but its usefulness in revealing and explaining sin is more limited. A study of the literature revealed that this had not been done to date.  The conclusion was that a wide chasm separates the two systems.  It is pointed out that further dialogue between Christianity and other religions may bridge this gap.  Helpful features common to both belief systems are explored. Although there is an emphatic picture of the 'net' and 'pits' of sin, there also is a stronger message of salvation (wholeness). The lament psalms are most effective in providing expressions of hopelessness, anger, fear, guilt, and hope within the context of faith.  Their concept of wholeness is substantiated by contemporary scientific research.  The church needs to take its part in this emerging discovery of its own ancient world. The thesis has two parts. The first part has two chapters. It begins with the study of characters of the Bible, which points to a holistic view of man. Next is the study of sin, which is split into the guilt of sin and the shamefulness of sin. This sinfulness will cause people to live in bondage, oppression, and blindness. The second part of the thesis has three chapters, covering Jesus' ministry on earth. It first analyzes how he proclaims freedom for the prisoners, recovers sight foe the blind, and releases the oppressed. Then, this is paralleled to the situation which modern man lives in. Next, it discusses how the pastoral staff brings people to the goal of holistic redemption. Finally, it recommends that when the pastoral staff is leading believers, they should establish a people-oriented shepherding team-ministry that provides an environment for holistic redemption. It also recommends that they should establish the structure of a believer's life with small group ministries and with worship ministries.
