He wished to discover the current best practices being utilized by effective family ministries as well as to identify major threats facing families, especially the black family.The author used four case studies as the research method in this project. The research seeks to: 1. Explore the biblical basis of the single-parent family, 2. Understand the needs and issues of the single-parent family, 3. Explore the influence of the redeeming grace of Christ to the single-parent family, 4. Provide care workers with practical goals and methods when working with the single-parent family, and 5. Manifest the love of Jesus through church-caring ministry to comfort the single-parent family and strengthen their hope and trust in Christ. Using the approaches found in theology and scripture on caring for single-parent families, this qualitative study examines four categories of single-parent individuals: widowed, divorced, unmarried mothers, and pseudo-singles. This project assessed the effectiveness of integrational ministry to single mother-led households in DuPage County, Illinois. Exegesis of key biblical passages revealed that these families were analogous to the widows and orphans in the biblical text. Data was collected via surveys of both church leadership and single mothers to determine ministry effectiveness to these families. Focus groups of ministry leaders used the survey data to assess current local church ministry and determine areas of needed improvement. In response to this problem the researcher first investigated Scripture's mandate to the church regarding its treatment of single mothers and their sons, as well as the related issues of poverty, loneliness, and low status. The researcher then examined literature about the causes, challenges and possible resources of single mothering. These steps informed the subsequent qualitative research project that gathered data through personal interviews, field notes, surveys, and on-site group discussions with single Hmong mothers, lay leaders, community leaders, pastors, entrepreneurs, and educators. From this data a grounded theory on the subject of single Hmong mothers emerged. The final stage of this project was the development and presentation of specific recommendations to the South Texas Children's Home Ministries ministry
