The paper discribes how this need is being met in two smaller membership churches through the use and evaluation of 'Body Builders: Exercises in Leadership Development for Elders of Smaller Membership Churches,' a training manual written for the project. The vital characteristics of smaller membership churches and the nature and origin of the office of elder are presented that these elders and churches may more effectively function in the upbuilding of the body of Christ. Results indicate that, when adequately and properly trained, few can serve greatly."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31bd5819-b5a3-4928-96d5-b581f38b637b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799720801613643776,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:11:45.201Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:44:41Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:37:57Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"9c42d734-dff3-4039-a000-afc2d4f9da8b","accessControl_ssim":["f9ba3cf7-62a7-401d-a9c6-55921bad2e78"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing an understanding of stewardship in the small church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:44:41Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:42:21Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d6526c6b-e7ac-4013-b313-d6b0abc0431d"],"hasLease_ssim":["0f8f412f-a280-4ee8-9fcf-3e6f478556e7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Phillips Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Rhodes Thompson"],"year_tesim":["1985"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Larry B Haney"],"publisher_tesim":["Phillips Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["First Christian Church (Calumet, Okla)","Christian stewardship","Small churches","Ricoeur, Paul, 1913-2005","Theology","Barth, Karl, 1886-1968"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project was an effort to develop an understanding of stewardship based on what God has done for us through the person of Jesus Christ. The hermeneutical process was taken from Paul Ricouer and the theology of stewardship was developed in reaction to Karl Barth's concept of 'true growth' in the community of faith. A seminar based upon the shared Christian praxis approach was developed. The seminar was held at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Calumet, Oklahoma. It consisted of lectures and written activities. The seminar participants gained a new understanding of stewardship which was used to project avenues of action. The project sought to enhance and expand the ministry of Faith Mountain Fellowship Church. The church selected an associate pastor, minister of music and missions, minister of adult education, and a children's director who conducted ministry events applicable to their positions and ministries. The ministry objectives of the participants were realized by planning, executing, and evaluating ministry events which improved their skills by in-service training. Church objectives were accomplished by involving individuals in leadership roles and providing them with opportunities for significant ministry achievements. This project is a workable model for most small churches that need responsible leaders and desire to expand their ministries."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e59d8a7f-b140-41e1-9d1f-4e98aaa1d973"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133037146144768,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:12:54.793Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:24:08Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:54:33Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f8b03e1f-3531-4a7f-891c-1e741a676bb8","accessControl_ssim":["c68f9708-9bbf-44ba-b124-58a60a9f0fc4"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The creative use of diversity: the struggle of a pastor to make diversity a positive factor in a small rural church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:24:07Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:13:56Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["fe60db94-8f8f-486e-9bd7-b97782617aca"],"hasLease_ssim":["b3ce3796-81dc-4356-92d3-284df8669815"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Ronald Frase"],"year_tesim":["1984"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Stephen Paul Kliewer"],"publisher_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Rural churches","Small churches","Congregations","Cultural pluralism","Concord","Pluralism","Social integration"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Plurality is a significant factor in many churches today. Within a single congregation people differ from one another in terms of politics, education, economics, theology, and background.
