To test this idea of community, we conducted leadership training to handle every member should they decide to join one. Seven new leaders and apprentices along with a host family carried the load of creating our desired result of connecting our church membership into small groups. This project took a select group of staff and lay-leaders meeting in small groups and facilitated the development of their emotional intelligence and spiritual maturity. At the end of the process, the participants committed to reproduce this process with a group the following semester. Learning theory and sociological dynamics helped shape the small group atmosphere. The project rendered that character formation effectively takes place in a small group setting. To achieve the goals for this project, the project director utilized training. The first phase of the project involved researching various resources, which address small group leadership skills. These sources aided in producing material for a workshop for initial training of small group leaders. The second phase included the development of a workshop, including lesson plans and a student workbook. The final phase of the project involved implementing a workshop for initial training. The project director trained a selected group of members of Costal Community Church in essential skills needed to lead a small group ministry. The methods used include biblical teaching, mentoring, and small group community.  The goals of the project are presented and their use for evaluating the project set forth. Paul's Epistle to the Colossians is used as the main curriculum as viewed in light of writings in postmodernism, ecclesiology, Christology, discipleship, and leadership development.  Impementation of the project for training senior leaders and mentoring emerging leaders is surveyed and then evaluated. In this project, the story of Jacob's ladder, mission theology, and theoretical concepts of education are used to analyze a structured small group learning experience in which the members personally investigate their surrounding neighborhood in order to discern a vision of the missio Dei the group members' church is called to
