In 2011, Liberty Hill Baptist Church took a step toward racial reconciliation by joining the Southern Baptist Convention. Parishioners, some of whom migrated from the South, expressed concerns about joining 'that racist organization.' However, despite their concerns, Liberty Hill voted overwhelmingly to join the SBC. Buried in the pile of 1,145 resolutions from 1845 to 2017 are resolutions specifically impacting African Americans. The focus of the project was to establish and lead a cross-cultural team, composed of pastors, ministry leaders, education specialists, and lay leaders drawn from VMCM membership, to develop a leadership training program and document that program in a training program plan. Matthew"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The dissertation seeks to answer two questions: 1) Was doctrine or the mission of making disciples the driving force behind the Great Commission Resurgence movement in the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) that began in 2007 and culminated in the passing of the final report from the Great Commission Resurgence Task Force in 2010? (2) Was the driving force behind the Great Commission resurgence biblical and effective in reversing the stagnation and decline in the baptismal number of the SBC? In researching this, no major works were found that focused on this topic of doctrine versus mission as the motivating factor of the Great Commission Resurgence. In forming a research strategy, four areas were examined. First was the need to exegete the Great Commission from Matthew 28:16-20. The Greek text was studied for linguistic syntax and structure. Additionally, Bible dictionaries and commentaries were referenced. Second, it was necessary to look at recent history dealing with ecumenical movements and their effects. Third, the Great Commission Resurgence itself was investigated beginning with Daniel Akins's 'Answering the Call to a Great Commission Resurgence' at the 2007 Building Bridges Conference and culminating with the report form the taskforce at the SBC in 2010. This dissertation focuses upon collaborative preaching within the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area to discover the population of Southern Baptist pastors using these homilectical methods. The most disturbing facts of the termination data are the reasons cited. Since 1983 the most-reported reasons for termination are not moral failure (lying, stealing, sexual immorality), false teaching, or any other violation of biblical qualifications, but rather nonspecific reasons such as control issues, pastor's leadership style too strong/weak, or decline in membership. This project asserts that congregationalism without a plurality of elders is unbiblical and unhealthy. It shows that over time the Southern Baptist Convention removed a plurality of elders from its congregational polity and replaced them with a democratic process. The research shows revived interest in a plurality of elders among Southern Baptists. This issue is due partly to the practice of local church autonomy, especially for Baptists in the Southern United States who were formed and part of the Southern Baptist Convention. This project focuses on the ordination practices of Cooperative Baptist Fellowship pastors in North Carolina and Virginia who locate themselves within this Baptist tradition. This report discovers which particular practices the pastors identified as meaningful in their ordination, most specifically which practices continue to sustain them in ministry today. This author was invited to speak at the inaugural pastor's conference hosted by the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. The need for a biblical pre-marital and marriage counseling manual that will equip Protestant ministers to assist people in building their marriages on the foundation of God's word was discovered through formal and informal discussions with indigenous ministers. The manual emphasizes the truth that marriage is God's creation and not solely man's institution, as propogated by the Soviet regime. Therefore the Bible is the source for identifying the purpose as well as understanding the principles for marriage. Chapters include the following teachings: the authority and sufficiency of scripture for biblical counseling, building a biblical foundation for marriage, pre-marital counseling, divorce and remarriage, and counseling for major marriage problems.
