Many current programs and activities are based upon historical traditions.  The author saw a need to evaluate present procedures in the light of history feeling that such a study would reveal any effective or fragmented practices and policies, strengthen the present ministry, and contribute to the design of future strategy.  After reading extensively in the areas of biblical and theological foundations for missions, missiology, historiography and Spanish history, the author thoroughly investigated the records, minutes, documents and archives of the Baptist mission to Spain and interviewed missionaries and Spaniards having a personal knowledge of the history of the mission.  Letters and documents were obtained from other religious agencies. Primary is the need to increase the leader's understanding and awareness of the later years, to be more aware of program models, and to organize and evaluate programs.  Through the use of a survey research model 300 leaders with various experience levels completed a questionnaire testing this hypothesis.  The results are evaluated positively in terms of the response and through theological reflection. Though each sponsoring church handled their relationship with their new church plant differently, each gave financially to support the new church. This project is a modified content analysis of literature used by the Southern Baptist Convention. Questions about the literature were asked in order to gauge the strengths, weaknesses and common themes. The answers provided data that was beneficial in determining how the denomination trains churches in sponsoring new work. As a result seventeen principles were identified. A five-session series introduced both laity and clergy to demographics, group identity concepts, focus community profiles, spiritual gifts, core church competencies, and interviews with experienced community penetration practitioners. Participants' reactions and churches' interest in such training varied widely.  Some feel that tracking trends to adjust outreach is a novel but needless exercise. The New Age religious emphasis upon channeling will be contrasted with the Christian worldview and a method of pastoral ministry consistent with the polity of a Baptist church.  The purpose is to make a Southern Baptist congregation aware of the challenge of New Age channeling and to teach the congregation, through a selected study group, how to respond to the challenges of New Age theologies and why the response is necessary.  First, the project will focus on familiarizing the participant group from the Calvary Baptist Church of Inola, Oklahoma, with the claims of channeling.  Second, the project will endeavor to develop a faithful biblical hermeneutic so that the study group can respond to these claims. Ultimately, the combined purpose is not only to understand, but also to be able to answer the treat presented by channeling to the Christian church. The project is a slice of a ten-year effort to bring organizational change to a state denomination of churches affiliated with the Dakota Southern Baptist Fellowship. The change needed was to multiply the number of churches. The primary means of accomplishing this change required the enlistment of a force of professional church planters to lead in the designing and implementing of regional strategies for the starting of new churches. This force was found in the existing positions of the Associational Missionaries.
