Perfection is defined not as a sermon that is free of errors but rather as a sermon that is mature and complete, arising out of awareness and knowledge of God that is received, in part, through the experience of receiving spiritual direction.Chapter 1 provides an introduction to spiritual direction through offering several definitions and a short history.Chapter 2 describes my experience of receiving spiritual direction and using that experience as a preaching resource.Chapter 3 provides an analysis of how the experience of receiving spiritual direction is useful in preaching. I give attention to four areas: 1. Increased awareness of God through spiritual direction that is used as a basis for preaching; 2. Increased awareness of self through spiritual direction that is used in preaching; 3. Anecdotal experiences that occur in spiritual direction that can be used as sermon illustrations; 4. The workshop helped these leaders investigate this tool to determine if they would like to pursue its use and offered assistance in how to find a spiritual direction relationship. A handbook entitled the Beginner's guide to spiritual direction relationships (SDR) is included which workshop participants read along with attending eight sessions to discuss the handbook and other topics related to SDR. It is our conviction that those whose ministry it is to make disciples of Jesus Christ need to be helped in making sure they are attending to becoming disciples themselves. Faith mentoring is understood as accompaniment that assists in vocational, relational and spiritual growth. Following Sandra Matthei's model for faith mentoring, three dimension of faith mentoring are discussed (incarnational, contextual, relational) and four roles explored (guide, guarantor, model, mediator).  The method of addressing each correspondent was informed by social analysis concerning Filipino cultural values and Charles Taylor's three stage metanoia model. Participants provided extensive data before and throughout the project in quantitative and narrative forms. All participants benefited from the interactions and felt nurtured in their faith, but each responded to the experience in individual ways. Narrative material proved more revealing than quantitative responses.
