The project involved a series of workshops that taught people a variety of spiritual exercises and the biblical/theological foundations for spiritual gifts; provided definitions for the gifts of the Spirit listed in Scripture; and, discussed the implications of gifts discovery in the life of the congregation.  The workshop participants answered pre-workshop and post-workshop questionnaires which were analyzed according to the contributions of psychological type theory. Changes in imagery were measured after three hour workshops using secular consciousness-training (relaxation, visualization, and mental rehearsal) alone or with an equal period of spiritual exercises (meditation, contemplation, and prayer). Basic life experiences (centering, imaging, and anticipating) were defined, then discerned in world religions, secular psychology, Christian mysticism, and healing.  Substantial parallels were found between certain forms of relaxation, visualization, and mental rehearsal and particular ways of doing meditation, contemplation and prayer. A bi-monthly, six-hour spiritual enrichment cluster assisted pastors at their own level of spirituality.  Clusters included assignments and readings, discussion of two disciplines, and sharing progress in implementing the disciplines. Assessment instruments gave pastors a before and after evaluation of their individual progress.  Pastors registered not only an increased passion for God, but also personal growth in the fruit of the Spirit.  Daily times spent in prayer and reflection increased appreciably.
