Five small groups participated in a ten-month program of spiritual formation using John Wesley's 'band' model.  A questionnaire was administered to the small groups and the rest of the congregation before and after the program.  The small groups experienced significannt spiritual renewal but the remainder of the congregation did not. The sample is drawn over a two year period.  The motivational participation factors of the fifty-six respondents are studied empirically to evaluate their correlation with individual characteristics of the participants' individual religiosity inventory scores and church participation theories.
