The project arises from the ministry challenges that many Chinese diaspora churches effectively provide theological teaching and communal belonging but often struggle to cultivate believers who embody a reproducible missional identity in everyday life. The project therefore investigates whether Christian coaching can support believers in integrating faith, identity, and mission within their daily contexts.\r\n\r\nGrounded in practical theology and missional discipleship theory, the research employed a participatory action research design and a mixed-methods approach. Six participants from a Chinese-background congregation in Melbourne participated in a three-week intervention consisting of six group Christian coaching sessions. A single-group pre- and post-test design measured perceived changes across three dimensions of missional discipleship: self-awareness in Christ, relational reproducing of discipleship, and radical devotion expressed through costly obedience. Quantitative self-awareness data were complemented by qualitative reflections and written semi-structured exit interviews.\r\n\r\nFindings indicate directional growth across all three dimensions of missional discipleship. Participants reported increased awareness of their identity as “beloved and send” in Christ, a reframing of disciple-making as relational and assessable within everyday relationships, and greater openness to faithful obedience within their cultural and vocational realities. Qualitative data further revealed how these shifts were experienced through relational engagement, vocational discernment, and reflection on cultural barriers to costly obedience.\r\nWhile limited by its small sample size and exploratory design the project suggests that short-term group Christian coaching can function as a formative environment that encourages believers to reinterpret their everyday lives as participation in God’s mission. The project contributes to practical theology by proposing Christian coaching as a contextually responsive approach to cultivating missional discipleship within Chinese Australian diaspora church contexts."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1866642903595483136,"timestamp":"2026-05-30T19:29:55.060Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2026-05-30T17:40:37Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2026-05-30T17:40:38Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"107f0ac4-c393-4823-b371-873b19750710","accessControl_ssim":["af0cb6b4-b975-4edc-85af-a5e498c57307"],"depositor_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"title_tesim":["Reformissional Discipleship: A Strategy for Renewing the Discipleship Effort in an Orthodox Presbyterian Congregation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2026-05-30T17:40:37Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2026-05-30T17:40:37Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c8199f3e-0160-4001-8e74-0172fb382291"],"hasLease_ssim":["370c812d-8127-47f5-85cf-65511dfa4ed6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry "],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity International University"],"year_tesim":["2026"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Although the congregation verbally affirms Reformed preaching, worship, and government, the study found that discipleship is often understood and practiced in broadly evangelical rather than distinctly Presbyterian and Reformed categories, and many participants\r\ndemonstrated limited ability to articulate core Presbyterian and Reformed convictions. As a result, confessional identity, theological continuity, and intentionally Reformed disciple formation have become less clearly articulated and consistently practiced in the congregation. The project develops a theological and theoretical framework through an examination of Reformed discipleship, missional discipleship, and their integration into a proposed model\r\ntermed Reformissional Discipleship. Reformissional Discipleship is defined as a confessionally grounded approach to disciple-making that maintains the primacy of covenant theology, worship, ecclesiology, and the ordinary means of grace while fostering faithful participation in the missio Dei through the life and ministry of covenant community. Using a mixed-method action research design, the study employed a congregational survey, a focus group with the Committee on Edification, and semi-structured interviews with members and church leaders. Findings revealed strong appreciation for preaching, worship, and\r\nrelational fellowship, but also limited shared understanding of discipleship and a lack of intentional structures for disciple-making. In response, this project proposes a strategic plan for discipleship renewal centered on confessional formation, relational discipling structures, leadership development, and greater integration of discipleship into the ordinary life of the\r\nchurch."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1866636029477257216,"timestamp":"2026-05-30T17:40:39.390Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2026-05-29T20:17:01Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2026-05-29T20:17:03Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ac9608a6-7319-4104-8803-2ab2cd84a354","accessControl_ssim":["fd870b80-d997-41e2-8950-732f78d031a5"],"depositor_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"title_tesim":["From Felt Needs to Passing on Faith: A Study of Ministry Among First-Generation Immigrant Chinese Emerging Adult Christians in the Metro Detroit Area"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2026-05-29T20:17:01Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2026-05-29T20:17:01Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c5601908-4508-4ffb-a059-6d8eabaa5a41"],"hasLease_ssim":["85ca325a-f1f5-4ecf-9c65-27c7c41faab3"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity International University"],"year_tesim":["2026"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. To contribute to more effective ministry among young adults, this project examined the church-related experiences of Chinese immigrant believers aged 22–40 in the Metro Detroit area, with particular attention to how church ministries addressed their felt\r\nneeds. This study employed surveys, direct observations, and interviews to collect both qualitative and quantitative data from the target population. Findings indicated that their most significant needs included career development, building healthy family relationships, and cultivating a meaningful relationship with God. Participants generally preferred to address these needs through self-directed learning and personal growth. Their primary concerns involved uncertainty about the future, anxiety related to major life decisions, and pressures arising from daily responsibilities. Most respondents considered themselves sufficiently mature to manage these concerns independently; only when encountering challenges beyond their capacity did they become more open to external guidance and support. Although socializing and forming friendships were not high priorities for many participants, they valued fellowship groups that offer meaningful interaction and shared interests. Effective fellowship, in their view, provided opportunities to share personal experiences, observe life examples, and receive support when needed. For most participants, church ministries have been successful in creating such fellowship environments, resulting in strong involvement, engagement, and enjoyment. However, the findings also suggested that church ministries have been less effective in helping these young adults cultivate a deeper relationship with God and in guiding them toward wholehearted commitment to Christ.\r\nThis study offered recommendations for strengthening the process of passing faith to young believers, including addressing their practical and spiritual needs, supporting their spiritual growth, and motivating them to live as committed disciples and witnesses of Christ."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1866555272941535232,"timestamp":"2026-05-29T20:17:03.957Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2026-05-29T20:02:19Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2026-05-29T20:02:20Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4e705d7e-193c-4545-991c-f7e4902805f3","accessControl_ssim":["bb0b59e5-7ed2-4b81-966b-c7660d8562ef"],"depositor_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"title_tesim":["Evaluating the Transformation Effectiveness of Integrated Biblical Teaching at Two Rivers Church: A Baseline Study"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2026-05-29T20:02:18Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2026-05-29T20:02:18Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6040d333-6ae7-4e62-b05e-453f85444f54"],"hasLease_ssim":["28fb1a2a-c772-47fd-b657-fa56bd56a653"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity International University"],"year_tesim":["2026"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The research asked a simple question: \"Are we becoming more like Jesus, together?\" Using a pretest-posttest mixed-methods survey design, the study measured self-reported spiritual growth across four core values that define the biblical DNA of a follower of Jesus at Two Rivers Church: Gospel-centered, Word-dependent, Spirit-empowered, and Relationally Connected. A transformation rubric grounded in these core values provided the measurement framework for quantitative rating scales and qualitative open-ended responses.\r\nThe theoretical framework drew on biblical theology, spiritual formation theory, transformational church research, and educational theory, establishing that lasting spiritual change requires learning cycles beyond weekend sermons. The quantitative findings revealed a congregation in the \"Growing to Maturing\" range across all four core values, with the most significant movement occurring in daily Scripture engagement through the LIO guide. Relationally Connected consistently scored highest across all assessments. The qualitative findings revealed seven distinct themes describing how participants experienced the integrated model. Participants reported transformed marriages, reconciled relationships, and reoriented daily priorities as direct results of sustained engagement with the weekend message. The findings indicated that the integrated teaching model produced indicators of spiritual transformation among those who engaged it consistently, though a significant portion of the congregation had not yet adopted regular daily engagement. This baseline assessment established the foundation for a longitudinal evaluation over the next three years, providing Two Rivers Church with an evidence-based framework for ongoing discipleship. The study also demonstrated that churches can develop tools to measure spiritual transformation, grounded in their theological convictions."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1866554347236622336,"timestamp":"2026-05-29T20:02:21.136Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2026-05-06T14:23:58Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2026-05-06T14:32:11Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"88ce8d40-6ea5-45f6-8171-2fef31eef1ed","accessControl_ssim":["9dada05b-4782-4f64-84c8-6789cbb96bba"],"hasRelatedMediaFragment_ssim":["82d2d638-76dd-4960-8aba-9108b4bef497"],"hasRelatedImage_ssim":["82d2d638-76dd-4960-8aba-9108b4bef497"],"depositor_ssim":["jdechant@meadville.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["jdechant@meadville.edu"],"title_tesim":["Loving-Kindness Leadership: A New Paradigm for Personal and Global Transformation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2026-05-06T14:23:55Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2026-05-06T14:32:11Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["40597434-6ed1-48de-a25b-871018a7dc2d"],"hasLease_ssim":["f92bae67-2616-4eae-b11b-a8147b1486b9"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Meadville Lombard Theological School"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Meadville Lombard Theological School"],"year_tesim":["2026"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The project addresses a recurring ministry and leadership problem: a gap between leaders’ professed moral and spiritual commitments—such as care, dignity, and justice—and the operational practices that shape organizational life, often resulting in relational harm, burnout, and diminished trust. Employing a Practical Theological Method grounded in an iterative praxis cycle, the project engages lived leadership experience, critically reflects on the spiritual traditions of Metta, Agápē, Chesed, and Ubuntu, and integrates interdisciplinary insights from psychology, neuroscience, and organizational studies. The findings reveal that loving-kindness is not a passive or sentimental posture, but rather a disciplined, boundary-honoring leadership ethic that requires clarity, accountability, and just structures. To support implementation, the project offers an original Operating Model incorporating Four Levels of Leadership (Self, Others, Leaders, and Organizations) and seven core Loving-Kindness Leadership Practices. The project demonstrates that when loving-kindness is operationalized, it bridges belief and practice, fostering relational safety, ethical presence, and durable human and organizational flourishing."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/downloads/82d2d638-76dd-4960-8aba-9108b4bef497?file=thumbnail","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_ids_ssim":["82d2d638-76dd-4960-8aba-9108b4bef497"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Doctor of Ministry Dissertations and Projects"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["061a0024-1d62-4dba-b274-091512484660"],"file_set_ids_ssim":["82d2d638-76dd-4960-8aba-9108b4bef497"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["meadville.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["jdechant@meadville.edu"],"_version_":1864449847838375936,"timestamp":"2026-05-06T14:32:14.111Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2026-04-22T20:35:42Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2026-04-22T20:35:50Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d9f7db8f-ed9f-4d54-a67f-6008b2620113","accessControl_ssim":["cddda28d-8b50-4cd0-811d-4ed62f27b3e1"],"hasRelatedMediaFragment_ssim":["efab592e-89db-459e-8aaf-3cc96e628b94"],"hasRelatedImage_ssim":["efab592e-89db-459e-8aaf-3cc96e628b94"],"depositor_ssim":["styberg.library@garrett.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["styberg.library@garrett.edu"],"title_tesim":["Spiritual Resilience: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis of the Experience of St. Ignatius' Daily Examen in the Inner Spiritual Life of Hurricane Laura Survivors"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2026-04-22T20:35:40Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2026-04-22T20:35:40Z","isPartOf_ssim":["3df011d0-8abf-40e1-bcb8-0d2628dbd35f"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["1700b0c7-31a1-49d8-9c08-3ab060c49fe6"],"hasLease_ssim":["05f5ef7d-4b5e-4440-ad5d-9ae7d6f1eb3a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2026"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min.
