The project had three phases: interviews which included drawing a picture of God and self, ten worship times developed for the student body, and a second set of interviews with a second picture.  The findings, while not completely able to support the author's thesis since the project was subjective, did reveal naturally curious children who were eager to explore God's presence in their lives. The director identified and enlisted a strategy team at Southside Baptist Church. He used six sessions to equip the strategy team to develop a strategy. The strategy team developed a spiritual formation strategy using small groups. Within this scope, three areas are studied from the angle of biblical interpretation.  First, theology: this part discusses important teachings of Jesus regarding the truth and the clarification of theological concepts.  Second, scriptural annotation: this part discusses three contextual dimensions: Scripture, the key people (Jesus, the disciples, etc.), and the historical background, as well as the interaction between the three dimensions. This project brought together sixteen individuals in ten weekly sessions of training in and practicing of lectio divina. Although lectio divina worked as expected, the discovery of the overwhelming need among this group for community proved to be an unexpected asset in the quest for renewed spiritual vitality. Thirteen senior pastors and staff ministers from the PNBC and other African American churches evaluated the manual and judged it to be necessary, useful and biblically sound.
