For those of us rooted in the Christian tradition, following Christ means offering mercy and kindness to others. It means seeking to understand the world around us so as to recognize the places where God longs to be made known. A transformative potential lies within all short-term mission and service-learning events. To tap that potential we must listen to the wise voices of those have served before us and to the Holy Spirit that leads us into transformative relationships. This project explores the works of several researchers and scholars who identify the potential outcomes of service-learning and short-term mission, and those interested in the transformational effects of such experiences. The project also served in providing the minister knowledge, tools, and resources increasing his effectiveness in practicing ministry in the local congregation. The project enabled the minister to understand that spiritual formation and community service are significantly interrelated as one shares the gospel locally and globally. There was sufficient data to suggest that all participants experienced some type of positive change, growth, or insight as a result of participation in the project."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31bd5819-b5a3-4928-96d5-b581f38b637b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126808488312832,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:33:54.682Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:39:38Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:18:57Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"46d91c0b-57a4-4a54-b812-a7d7a9853242","accessControl_ssim":["88fbdccb-fd54-4d46-ada1-7b6f93c67977"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Equipping selected members of Cleveland First Baptist Church to disciple new adult members"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:39:36Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:12:09Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a6b542ab-9741-4c26-b9c3-f3c24274dd81"],"hasLease_ssim":["5390bd00-91af-4d9b-92c3-375d9d41ca36"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Archie W England"],"year_tesim":["2012"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["William H Parris"],"publisher_tesim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Mentoring","Cleveland First Baptist Church (Cleveland, SC)","Discipling (Christianity)","Spiritual formation","Church membership","Assimilation (Sociology)","Christian education of adults"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project was to equip selected members of Cleveland First Baptist Church, Cleveland, South Carolina for discipleship of new adult members. The project consisted of three phases. The first phase involved researching the fields of discipleship, one-on-one discipleship, and mentoring. The project director used this research to develop the curriculum for a workshop to equip the selected group. The second phase included the development of workshop lesson plans, a participant workbook, and a discipleship handbook. The third phase involved equipping the selected group using the workshop materials. The workshop consisted of six sessions, including an introductory and concluding sessions. The project director's intent of the project was to develop a systematic method to train selected members to help new adult members grow spiritually. Evaluation of the project confirmed that the workshop was effective in training the selected group to disciple new adult members through one-on-one discipleship."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5e492469-490e-44a3-90c1-17560a603bc2"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717482867458048,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:19:00.198Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:34:20Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:34:24Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e7da95fc-e112-4085-bbac-6da9d6cfef37","accessControl_ssim":["c9d5b624-6617-4498-bace-9fb208dde43e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Christian formation: its nature, place and role in the life of a congregation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:34:17Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:45:56Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["1a191a59-ce8c-41f2-a0a3-9f25052fd54f"],"hasLease_ssim":["fa389006-7e10-4c6e-a7f3-f285953ce959"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry (Ambridge, PA)"],"advisor_tesim":["Don Collett"],"year_tesim":["2012"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Nathanael Devlin"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry (Ambridge, PA)"],"subject_tesim":["Discipling (Christianity)","Beverly Heights Presbyterian Church (Pittsburgh, Pa)","Faith development","Spiritual formation"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The argument of this thesis is that Christian formation is a biblical idea and the God-ordained strategy by which God accomplishes his mission in the world through his church.
