The study was conducted with ten Christian ten leaders and three observers in a seven week Bible study focusing on the process of spiritual transformation.  The study was measured by a pre-study questionnaire, a post-study questionnaire, and an evaluation.  The results of the study indicated significant change in spiritual gifting. The research question addressed in this paper is: To what extent will the reincorporation of traditional Brethren in Christ discipleship practices into the life of the contemporary church produce an increase in spiritual passion? As measured by the Natural Church Development survey, results were not encouraging. Participants in study were divided into four focus groups, attending nine sessions of spiritual direction using curriculum in A spiritual formation workbook by James Bryan Smith.  A self-designes questionnaire was used to measure effects of spiritual formation in the congregation. When compared to a control group, those who participated scored significantly higher in all areas of spiritual growth (both individually and corporately). The training on this spiritual triad was accomplished with thirty members/leaders in six sessions through the use of Bible instruction and other professional materials.  Interviews, post-test, and focus groups were used to measure the effect of the training. Olive United Methodist Church, Topeka, Kansas, the researcher formed five spiritual formation groups of three led by five trained spiritual friends.  Groups attended ten weekly sessions of prayer and Wednesday night Bible study. Questionnaires were given at the beginning and at the end of the program.  The results of the questionnaires indicated that students grew in their Christian faith as demonstrated by an increase in discernible discipleship habits.  The liturgy helped facilitate that end.  The mentors developed relationships with the mentorees that empowered them to grow in their Christian faith.
