In a 12-week experience, group participants practice personal devotions, meditation, and journaling.  The project follows participants' spiritual journeys and expresses them in their words, revealing qualities and skills necessary for an initiator, as well as some hurdles and concerns.  The project makes no claim that group spiritual guidance is the only way to draw closer to God, but with minimal education for the initiator such groups can be incorporated into churches. A change in understanding of lay ministry is necessary to overcome the inactivity or passivity of the laypersons.  This requires a change from a consciousness based on the Confucian tradition to the Christian idea based on the Bible and Christian tradition. This project suggests a better understanding of ministry and church office, educational programs, and important implications that are necessary for the Korean Church to activate lay ministry. The practice of confirmation in a local church provided the setting for the project, conducted over a 13-week period with persons between adolescence and adulthood. Beginning with members of already-existing ministry groups, this project formed a 'Discipleship Group' for prayer, intentional reflection on personal practices of faith, and mutual accountability. Inner healing, healthy sexuality, and spiritual growth require that men resolve inner conflicts resulting from fear of intimacy and mutuality in relationships, anger and abuse of power and persons, and contemporary male role expectations.  This project proposes that the local church should be the primary setting for this work in the lives of men of faith. Research of current literature and resources identified critical issues for male sexuality and masculine spirituality.  Workshop sessions addressed several of these issues in three local church retreats for men. A model of spiritual transformation is developed from the work of Loder, Sobrino, and others.  Following a praxis-theory-praxis approach, it begins with a selection of metaphors taken from source material in the author's religious congregation, the Passionists.  The project subjects these metaphors to careful scrutiny with the aid of symbolic anthropology (following the work of James Hernandez) and hermeneutic philosophy (following the work of Paul Ricoeur). The first three items were the most effective in fostering spiritual life on campus. It combines a research and materials model. Alexander Campbell's theological anthropology and soteriology are researched, and then that material is refashioned into a manual on spiritual formation based on the gospel ordinances. In addition, each participant experienced four devotional practices selected to facilitate their spiritual growth.
